Directions

You are cordially invited to attend the MABEP Membership Meeting. This meeting will feature Chris Gregory, from the National SAVE Energy Coalition, to discuss pending federal legislation that could dramatically impact Maine’s energy efficiency and renewable energy businesses.

The Senate now has multiple proposals for passage of a similar climate and energy bill. The National SAVE Energy Coalition is a diverse group of organizations formed in 2008 to make sustainable energy a top federal legislative priority. Their first campaign sought to make efficiency a centerpiece of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA). December 1 Membership Meeting with Dr. Tom Tietenberg

This meeting featured Dr. Tom Tietenberg, a member of Maine Efficiency Trust. Funding for energy efficiency is certainly on an uptick, in no small part due to the availability of stimulus funds. But those funds currently have a two-year horizon. What happens after that?

Some argue that the carbon market may pick up the slack. Having been a part of the design and evaluation of these types of markets for the better part of thirty years, Tom will share some thoughts on the carbon market-energy efficiency connection. He will outline how these markets work, how the current debates over carbon market policy design in Washington could effect the market for energy efficiency and what the future might hold.

Having retired from Colby College in 2008 following a thirty-five year career teaching environmental and resource economics, Tom is a former President and current Fellow of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. The author of over 100 articles, essays and books, Tom was the team leader for the United Nations project that laid the foundation for the design of the emissions trading, joint implementation and clean development mechanism components of the Kyoto Protocol on Climate Change.
